Standing with Our Arts Community: A Note from Our General & Artistic Director
Yesterday, The Phoenix Symphony announced that it is suspending its season because of financial constraints that prevent it from meeting its obligations. I know many of you have heard this news, and I wanted to reach out to you directly.
PYSO has long shared a close and meaningful relationship with The Phoenix Symphony. Its musicians have coached our students, performed alongside them, and inspired many of them to pursue music. Our hearts go out to the symphony’s musicians, staff, and their families during this very difficult time.
I also want to reassure you: PYSO is a separate, independent organization, and our operations will continue without interruption. Rehearsals, concerts, and all PYSO programs will go forward as scheduled. The only events that may be affected are those planned in partnership with The Phoenix Symphony this season. We will keep you informed about those as soon as we know more.
As the fifth-largest city in the United States, Phoenix deserves a rich community of thriving arts organizations, and I hope our community will rally to support them. At PYSO, our mission is to expand horizons through music while developing the next generation of artists, patrons, and leaders. Moments like this remind us why that mission matters. I hope your time with PYSO deepens your understanding that the arts are a vital part of our society and of the human experience.
Thank you for your continued support of our young musicians. We are holding The Phoenix Symphony family in our thoughts and sincerely hope a solution is found soon.
With gratitude,
Matthew Kasper
General and Artistic Director
